Amazon usually doesn’t offer coupon codes. However, you can still save money on your next Amazon purchase. The easiest way is to get free shipping with Amazon Prime. If you’re a student, you can save 50% off their annual membership fee and you also get your first six months free! Check out our tips for Amazon Prime Day. While the most effective way to save on Amazon is to purchase a Prime Membership, there are plenty of other ways for non-Prime members to save.
Ways to Save While Shopping on Amazon
When available, coupon codes can be found on select product pages and added to your order with a single click.
Check the Today’s Deals page for discounts upwards of 70% off a variety of products, no code necessary.
Every hour, Amazon refreshes its best-selling items — otherwise known as its “Movers & Shakers.” We make sure to feature deals from the products that we think deserve a shout-out. We also include each item’s fake spot grade, which provides a more accurate idea of how reliable the reviews actually are. (The tool picks through Amazon reviews and doles out poor grades for items that have biased critiques.)
Are we endorsing these items? Nope, just highlighting the deals that are getting the most love on Amazon.
Spend the Minimum to Unlock Savings
Free shipping price is available for Prime members and eligible orders that cost $25 or more at checkout.
Amazon often has promotions where you can spend a minimum amount on select products and receive an Amazon credit or gift card in return, typically ranging from $5 to $30.
While Amazon does not currently have a price adjustment policy, they do offer cash back rewards that can be added to your future Amazon Pay balance.
How to Win 5% Back on Purchases with Amazon’s Prime Rewards Credit Card
As an Amazon shopper, part of the checkout process involves an ad that offers a $70 gift card upon approval of an Amazon Rewards Card. Well, that offer just became a little bit harder to resist today as Amazon and Chase Bank announced the new Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card which gives you 5% back on all Amazon.com purchases for Prime members.
Existing Amazon Rewards cardholders with an eligible Prime membership will automatically be upgraded to this new card and can take advantage of the 5% back immediately, along with other Visa Signature benefits like no foreign transaction fees, 2% back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores, and 1% back on every other purchase.
Rewards are earned as points that can be redeemed on Amazon’s website during the checkout process, or if you’ve collected over 2,000 points, you can request a statement credit or electronic deposit.
Subscribe and Save
Amazon’s Subscribe & Save service offers up to a 15% discount at checkout when you add five or more eligible items to your monthly scheduled delivery. The standard Subscribe & Save discount is 5%.
Military personnel can get $40 off their one year prime subscription with an exclusive military discount.
Students can enjoy free shipping for their first 6 months with Amazon Prime, and 50% off their membership fee after that.
Senior citizens do not qualify for a senior citizen discount at this time.
Check Lightning Deals Every Day
The Lightning Deals page features discounts on certain products for just a few hours. You don't even need an Amazon coupon code to access these limited time online coupons, but you do have to jump on them quickly. The good news is, you can stack as many coupons as you'd like at check out. Amazon does not offer any printable coupons or printable promo codes at this time.
Amazon Warehouse Deals
If you don’t mind open box or used products, you should definitely check out the Amazon Warehouse page, which allows shoppers to find great deals on everything from electronics to housewares.
They often have promo codes for bigger discounts on your first purchase. Buying from third-party sellers and individuals on Amazon is another way to get huge discounts on used items, especially previous generation Kindles and other e-readers, as well as electronics and older books.
The Amazon Outlet section is a hidden gem where you’ll find discounts on apparel, beauty products, household items and holiday items.
Amazon has its own dedicated coupon page, which is a great resource if you're looking for an Amazon promo code. They have coupons on household necessities like cleaning supplies, bath and beauty products, and groceries.
Prime Membership Benefits
Frequent Amazon shoppers should definitely sign up for a Prime membership, as the free shipping alone may save you hundreds alone.
While there are no Amazon Prime coupon codes, the $119 annual fee provides a lot of value. Members receive access to:
- Free two-day shipping (and sometimes even one-day or same-day!)
- Access to Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Music
- Prime Pantry for low-priced grocery delivery
- Early access to Lightning Deals
- Unlimited photo storage
- 20% off Amazon Mom products.
Amazon Prime Video offers access to thousands of titles for $8.99 a month as a standalone subscription. A full Prime membership, however, will cost you only $12.99 a month (or the discounted rate of $120 for a full year), and grant you access to Prime Video as well as discounts on certain items and free two-day shipping.
Amazon Prime Student Discount
If $119 is a little steep for your student budget, you can join your family plan.
Amazon Fashion Discounts
Amazon Fashion is creating quite a bit of buzz with this new “try before you buy” program, which essentially lets you shop for clothes from home with no strings attached. Millions of items, from clothes to shoes to accessories, will be tagged with an Amazon Wardrobe logo. Add three or more items to your cart and Amazon will ship it out for free. It’s exclusive to Prime members, who can order up to 15 items at a time. Best of all, there are no upfront costs or return shipping fees!
The sales push here is that the more you buy, the more you save: you get 10% off if you keep three or four items; 20% off if you buy five or more. Some would argue that this model actually makes you more likely to overspend — impulsively dropping $20 on a “discounted” shirt is still $20 lost. In other words, the program’s ease of use and sheer convenience might require a touch more willpower on the shopper’s part.
Amazon Dash Buttons Available in App
The one-click buttons that made it easier to order your favorite products from Amazon are now available within the Amazon app and on their website. You no longer have to pay 99 cents to order Dash Buttons in their physical form; you can instead get the same (arguably better) experience on your phone.
With the new digital version of the Dash Buttons, you have more visibility into the going rates of your products. Just tap on the left side of the “button” in the app and you’ll see what the current price is. Tap on the right side to buy. There doesn’t seem to be a $4.99 credit waiting in the wings for using the digital Dash Buttons for the first time, but that’s no surprise.
Amazon's Customer Service
If you have questions about online discounts, online promo codes or your recent credit card transaction you can contact Amazon on their contact us page and find the live chat bot.
There is an Amazon customer service representative named Thor who is everything we’ve come not to expect from most people in his line of work (funny and helpful). Then again, he is named after a god.
In a live chat with a customer whose book order had gone missing, Thor indulged the customer in some role-play after he asked to be referred to as Odin. Thankfully, one of them took a screen shot of the conversation and posted it online so the rest of us can enjoy the witty back and forth dialog.
The customer service phone number is 1 (888) 280-4331.
When Is The Best Time to Shop?
Black Friday and Cyber Monday will likely feature some of the best deals, but be on the lookout for solid discounts earlier in the week, too.
Last year, Amazon broke down the Black Friday season into three distinct events: pre-Black Friday sales, Black Friday itself and Cyber Monday. Previous years suggest the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals will be pretty similar, especially when it comes to sales on Amazon devices.
