Love shopping at Kohl’s? Take advantage of these useful shopping hacks that can help you stack even more savings on your next visit.
1. Use expired Kohl’s cash
Don’t panic if your Kohl’s cash has recently expired. If you still have the physical voucher, the cashiers generally accept it if it only expired within the last ten days. If they turn it down, ask them to call their corporate division—most of the time it will be approved.
2. Use free shipping hacks
Kohl’s likes to keep you in the family by incentivizing you with free shipping. If you order at the in-store kiosks, they won’t charge you for shipping (normally $75 minimum is required).
You can also get free shipping if you go through the Kohl’s app and connect to the in-store Wi-Fi before making an order. The added benefit is that on occasion, a random discount will pop up as you open the app.
3. Stack up to four coupons
Kohl’s offers so many different types of discounts and they don’t mind if you combine up to four of these. Their coupon policy allows for this, but please note the fine print: if you’re using a mobile device, it drops to two. Also, coupons sometimes have brand exclusions too so be sure to look out for those.
4. Utilize price matching
There are few things as irritating as making a purchase and then seeing it for less somewhere else. Whether it’s at another physical store, or online at Kohls.com, if you find the identical item at a cheaper price, Kohl’s will match that price.
To request a price match, provide a print copy of a competitor’s ad for an identical product clearly stating the price. This hack does not apply to companies like Amazon.com. It only applies to other brick and mortar stores (for example Walmart, Best Buy and Target) and Kohl’s own online shopping site.

5. Know when to shop
Holding out for the weekend can pay off. Kohl’s regularly has ‘night owl’ and ‘early bird specials’. These are typically on the second and fourth weekends of each month. During these promotions, prices can drop by as much as 25%. Plan ahead and start stacking the savings.
The sales usually run on a Friday from around 3 p.m., and then again on Saturdays from opening time until closing time at around 1 p.m. However, if you shop online, you’ll find these hours extended. Best of all, you can use rewards and coupons on top of the slashed prices.
6. Take advantage of senior and military discounts
Kohl’s also has some great discounts for special groups.
- Military discounts: If you shop on Mondays in-store and you’re an active member of the military, you get a 15% discount. This even applies to military veterans, retirees and their immediate family members. To get this discount, you must bring along proper identification.
- Senior discounts: Another special group is for those 60 years and older. Seniors get a 15% discount in-store on Wednesdays.
7. Request a price adjustment if you miss a sale
Sometimes you make a purchase, and then boom—that same item goes on sale a few days later and you want to kick yourself. Luckily, Kohl’s will adjust the price for you retroactively. If the sale lands within two weeks of your purchase, head to the service desk to ask for an adjustment. The associate will ask to see a receipt and then refund you the difference.
8. Find special offers using the Kohl’s app
The app brings all the lucky finds under one umbrella. It will keep you informed of all gift cards, discount codes, promotions and Kohl’s Cash offerings. It will also give you a heads-up on opportunities that others won’t see, like ‘mystery offers’ and ‘secret sales’.
9. Join Kohl’s Rewards Program
You can earn 5% Kohl’s Rewards on every purchase, along with $10 in Kohl’s Cash for every $50 you spend. That is if you’re using the Kohl’s Rewards Program. If you are a frequent Kohl’s shopper, these rewards are too good to pass up.
On your birthday, you may even be eligible for a gift, and throughout the year, there are other events where you can stack up those bonus points.
10. Get Kohl’s Cash from Amazon returns
Not many people are aware, but Kohl’s accepts Amazon items you want to return at their store. Just request the return through the Amazon app and choose Kohl’s as your dropoff location. Bring your item to your Kohl’s location and you can even score $5 off in Kohl’s cash or a coupon.
11. Get extra discounts from Kohl’s credit card
Shoppers have become wary of store-specific credit cards, but if you shop at least once a month at Kohl’s, you can use it to your advantage. Once approved, you immediately get a 35% discount on your first card-based purchase. Then the perks start rolling in: Each month, the store gives cardholders 15%, 20%, and 30%.
If you buy things you don’t need because of having the card, it works against you. However, if you’re careful and spend $600 or more in a year on products you did actually need, this can work in your favor. You then qualify for the Most Valuable Customers category. This means qualifying for special rewards, like no more shipping fees.
12. Hold out for Black Friday
If you can hold out for Black Friday for that coveted item from Kohl’s, then do! The store has some superb deals on this day if you’re looking for items like appliances, cookware, or bigger ticket items like Fitbits, toys and games.
The best part is that they offer the same Black Friday deals online so you don’t have to get stuck in the marauding masses bursting through the doors at the stores. You’ll also get your Kohl’s cash with every purchase which, when factored in, makes the prices comparable to other stores.
